Maximising kitchen storage
The kitchen is the heart of your la casa. It’s where loves flourishes. Love of food. Love of wine. Love of family… But the fastest way to ruin this sentiment, is to have a cluttered kitchen that stresses you out! Here’s a few tips on how to keep your kitchen uncluttered, sacred and loving.
Accessories for your Sink
The sink is without a doubt the messiest part of the kitchen. It’s a cemetery for dirty dishes and cooking utensils alike. Dealing with a cluttered sink is enough to make you want to order takeaway most nights. A dishwashing rack is your best port of call. Even better – a mounted dish rack that sits on a shelf above your sink. Also consider a chopping board that fits over your sink – an easy counter space saver.
Use of Hooks
Mugs can be awkward to stack and often take up unnecessary shelf space. Hooks are a simple solution to this dilemma. Install hooks under shelves or cabinets for that modest, minimalist look. They’re also handy for car keys, which we all know love disappearing. Whilst you’re at it, consider hanging your stemware in a similar fashion. Showcasing your wine glasses is a simple way to exude elegance, too.
Strategic Use of Baskets, Trays and Trolleys
Baskets are an easy way to save space in your kitchen. They’re not only great for storing tidbits on your countertops, like fruit and bread rolls, they’re also great for adding character to your space. Especially, the three-tiered hanging basket. Fun fact, when fruit is suspended it actually gets more air circulation to help it ripen. That’s bananas! Trays and trolleys are also simple ways to save precious space.
Using Kitchen Islands Effectively
It’s simple really …If you’ve got a kitchen island, use both sides. It’s a no brainer! Using one side would be like only eating at one end of your dinner table. You just wouldn’t.
Consider using cabinets that open up from both sides. This will save you the hassle of having containers and appliances crammed into the back of hard to reach places.
You could also consider an open island or butchers block. Rather than a traditional cabinetry-style island, these are more cart based, and tend to not only take up less space, but make the area feel surprisingly larger too. Win-win!
Ceiling Mounted Open Shelves
Most punters focus solely on floorspace when organising their kitchen area, but sometimes thinking laterally can save you countless hours of stress and money, in the long run.
Ceiling mounted open shelves are a great example of this. Not only do they save you space, they also give your kitchen a modern vibe and are an easy way to show off your ceramics, which otherwise remain invisible.
